Services Research Studies

Services Research studies treatment outcomes to answer questions about treatment efficacy, economic impact and describe population characteristics. Services research is primarily used to shape policies that improve care.

Current:

  • Clinical and Policy Implications of a Statewide Emergency Telepsychiatry Program is a R01 grant funded by the National Institutes of Health. This study explores outcomes from  the  “Partners in Behavioral Health Emergency Services,” a cutting-edge telemedicine initiative delivering psychiatric care in emergency rooms across South Carolina to patients at some of their most vulnerable points in life. 
  • Pilot to Demonstrate Pooling of State Medicaid Data Sets to Examine Emergency Room Use Among Persons with Behavioral Health Disorders ( NIH/ NASMHPD funded)
  • A Two-state Analysis of Emergency Department Utilization by Persons with Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse Disorders ( NIH/ NASMHPD funded)

  • Rehospitalization rates in patients on long acting risperidone preparation and haloperidol decanoate.
  • Weight Gain On Atypical Antipsychotics in Treatment Naïve Young Adults During Their First Psychotic Break: Gender and Ethnic Differences
  • Noncompliance in Bipolar Disorder. Done in collaboration with Duke University.
