Schizophrenia/Schizoaffective Disorder and Weight Gain
BACKGROUND: Some people gain weight while taking medications called antipsychotics which treat the symptoms of schizophrenia. Weight gain can lead to obesity which places a person at higher risk for diabetes and heart disease. Researchers want to better understand the issues behind medications for schizophrenia and weight gain.
STUDY: Effects of Risperidone and Olanzapine on weight gain, physical health, compliance and outcome in a community sample of severe and persistently mentally ill patients
ELIGIBILITY: Clients between the ages of 18 and 65, diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective and taking antipsychotic medication completed this study.
