Our teaching programs including medical student education programs, residency training programs in General (Adult), Child Psychiatry, Forensic and Geriatrics offer a wide range of training experience for trainees in the public, private and academic sector. We are able to attract some of the brightest residents and provide comprehensive integrated training in the biology, psychopharmacology and psychosocial approaches to understanding and treating mental illnesses. The trainees are trained by a dedicated and committed group of core faculty.
This Department has a highly productive research division with an excellent track record of successfully procuring federal, pharmaceutical industry and foundation grants within a very short time frame focusing on major psychiatric illnesses. Research is being conducted in several areas of mood, psychosis, substance abuse, autism and comorbid mental illness. The research team has been successful in fostering inter and intra institutional collaborations with prestigious institutions including Duke, Dartmouth, Emory, Vanderbilt, Medical University of South Carolina, Medical College of Georgia, Tufts, USC-SOM and other USC Schools. They also conduct health policy research in collaboration with other state agencies.
