Division of Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic psychiatry is a subspecialty of psychiatry that applies psychiatric expertise to legal issues – both criminal and civil.  This specialty is formally recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) which offers added qualifications and board certification in this field. The psychiatrists of the Forensic Division have expertise and experience in a variety of forensic issues.    The psychologists on our faculty have experience in conducting neuropsychological evaluations and also in applying standardized testing techniques to forensic issues, such as sexual deviancy, mental competency, and malingering.  Finally, the Division supports a forensic psychiatry fellowship as well as forensic psychiatry training for medical students, general psychiatry residents, and child psychiatry residents.
